Descripción
Sumario:This article reflects on a practice that is continually updated, imposed in particular by the development of audiovisual technologies: the manipulation of audiovisual images in specific contexts for different purposes. More specifically, it discusses, in the contemporary world, the permanent construction and reconstruction of truth in the production of the visible, based on the use of VHS image files in the documentary series Caso Evandro released on the Globoplay platform. Journalistic audiovisual images related to major events and announced by their broadcast sources as “true documents” existed in pre-internet times, but were predominantly shown on the television news circuit. However, we argue that these archives have been acquiring “posthumous lives” and are recycled and given new meanings. Such images, in addition to being manipulated by various editing and sound processes, serve specific social political contexts.
