Sumario:This paper presents the several theories about identity that contribute to the construction of the concept of identity correspondence. Identity correspondence is a concept that intends to encompass the processes of alignment and congruence between the identity referents of the personal, social and collective dimensions of individual identity. Psychoanalysis, social cognitivism, symbolic interactionism and cultural studies are the different theoretical foundations that subsidize its elaboration. Specific aspects of the identity phenomenon are addressed by specific theories. The concept of identity correspondence proposes an approach that relates different theoretical perspectives present in the field. This paper presents the possible contributions of these theories and the limits of their appropriation for the elaboration of the concept of identity correspondence.
