Sumario:Based on the studies of Gilbert Durand, this article analyzes the archetypal matrix of communicational imagery proper to our contemporary cultures. It is a matter of questioning the status of the image and its relationship with past and present cultures, of showing the mechanism of negative hyperbole that serves as a pretext for the antithesis upon which Western rational thought is based.
