| Sumario: | Orality and narratives mark the multiple expressions of popular culture. Walter Benjamin denounced the decline of narratives, the "art of narration" and its impact of impoverishment of human experience. In this study we articulate empirical and theoretical data to analyze the status that has been attributed to the narratives in the processes of inventory and patrimonialization currently undertaken, reflecting on its adequacy and possible impacts on the safeguard of intangible heritage, based on Benjamin’s thoughts. We turn our attention to cultural expressions categorized as religious celebrations, and take as case study the Folia de Reis. |
