| Sumario: | To work on the dogma of Original Sin is to return to the sources of the Catholic Christian faith. We will use two biblical passages: Gn 2, 4b-19, Rm 5,12-20 and Saint Augustine. In his work A Graça I, he makes a treatise on Grace and Original Sin to counter Pelagius’ theology. We prefer to stop at the two biblical pericopes mentioned above, as they are necessary to understand how the transgression made by the first couple in the history of creation, namely Adam and Eve, occurred. They were seduced by the serpent’s cunning, thus, they were against the only commandment that God had given them: not to eat the fruit of the tree that is in the center of Eden, paradise. However, they violated it, were expelled from the garden of Eden and received harsh penalties from God, the greatest of which was death. São Paulo draws a parallel between Jesus Christ and Adam. Through the first man sin entered the world, and in Christ, the new Adam, the world was saved from the sin committed by Adam. Saint Augustine was the great theologian in the formulation of the theology of Original Sin, he fought Pelagianist heresy. By the transgression committed by Adam, men were in sin, and by the grace of the new Adam, men will be saved. |
