| Sumario: | My aim in this essay is to isolate Milton’s specifically Protestant ethics and aesthetics in his shift from tradition to innovation. With Milton, the task is doubly difficult. The resurgence of Christian Humanism in contemporary critical thinking seems to coincide with Milton’s academic defense against his detractors.
