Descripción
Sumario:Coronelismo was a political system that wove power relations in the period of the Old Republic (1889-1930), so this article discusses issues intrinsic to coronelismo. To achieve this, our objectives were: to identify the emergence of coronelismo in Brazil and its relationship with land ownership; understand and characterize coronelism in Rio Grande do Sul and analyze the performance of a colonel in the Planalto Médio. To meet the objectives, we carried out a bibliographic review looking for authors who study the subject, such as Victor Nunes Leal, Loiva Félix and Isléia Streit. We also analyzed the Civil and Criminal Action process District Court of Cruz Alta Division of land measurement as a primary source, to assist in understanding the relationship between land ownership and coronelism in Rio Grande do Sul. Among the conclusions is the existence of coronelism in southern territories, but with different specificities from other states in Brazil and also the imposing presence, in the period in question, of Colonel Victor Dumoncel Filho in the region of the Middle Plateau.
