Resumo:The Latin-American culture and European languages in this territory are characterized by a strong hybridation, caused by the contact with other languages and unprecedent conditions of production, which foment changes to manage a new reality. As a result, the linguistic variation and the cultural matter are important to the Spanish teaching as additional language, for they highlight language as a process, open to intercultural and interlinguistic influence. Thus, this article aims to: emphasize how literature and reading, specially, the work of the Paraguayan writer Augusto Roa Bastos, as a privileged event to experiment and reflect upon the other’s culture and about hybrid cultures, mix raced; demonstrate the productivity of the short story “El viejo señor Obispo” to a work in the Spanish teaching that is concerned with the historic-cultural aspect in the building of a language, as much as the linguistic variation as a inherent trait of all living languages. After the introduction, it is presented the methodology and theoretical basis, followed by the analysis of central points of the short story and, finally, the outline of a didactic proposal. This research is based on the studies of Walsh (2010) and Mignolo (2003), to reflect on the matter of interculturality and cultural hibridation; in Alemany Bay (2013), as a ground to the consideration about the short story of Roa Bastos; in Lopéz Garcia (2010), for the thematic of the crossing between Spanish and other languages in América; in Huelva Unterbäumen (2015), about the cultural dimension in language teaching, among others. Without considering literature as a aesthetic experience, as a event the provokes pleasure, we see in it also the possibility to build a more emphatic and disruptive regard on society, that put in discussion common sense reading about the present time and history.
