| Sumario: | The magnitude and location of damage in structures by measurement of some dynamic properties, were determined. For this, two indexes were used: the MAC (Modal Assurance Criterion) and COMAC (Coordinate Modal Assurance Criterion). First, cross sections of beams were studied which had different loci and damage degrees, and then a complex structure (football stadium), was analyzed. Damage analysis was performed using the finite element method, and the mechanical characteristics were varied to simulate various damage levels in different places. Damage location was obtained in simple structures with good accuracy. In complex structures the use of three modes is not sufficient to detect reductions of rigidity lower than 10%. It is concluded that the MAC and COMAC indexes work adequately for simple structures, but in complex structures the COMAC index is not recommendable. |
