Sumario:We analyze, in this article, under qualitative and quantitative biases, the vocable presidenta, which, based on its latin form, would not present variation; however, the validity of the term is justified by several criteria: (i) the language includes variation and change; (ii) the residente/presidenta variation in Portuguese (Brazilian and European) is also noted in media vehicles of the other romance languages: French, Italian, Spanish and Romanian; (iii) there is mention in reference books, (iv) which also present a possibility of variation to other words ending in -e; (v) the variation is evidenced in real data, being the presidenta vocable strongly motivated by political-party position.
