| Sumario: | Wildlife refuges, designed to preserve the survival of diverse species of flora and fauna, face an increasing threat due to forest fires in Brazil. This intensification endangers the integrity of environments that seek to protect biodiversity. Focusing on the Stone of Androhina Wildlife Refuge, Sobral/CE, we aimed to use VIIRS remote sensing data (2012-2023) and Landsat and Sentinel-2 images (2015, 2016, 2020 and 2023) to identify and delimit areas affected by fires. Indices such as NBR and dNBR were applied to assess the severity of land cover and land use according to MapBiomas data. Sixty-eight hot spots were recorded, with October 2020 being the month with the highest incidence. The 2020 scar stood out, with 860.47 ha burned, affecting 89.63% of the total area of the refuge, accumulating 1011.97 ha burned, with at least 290.25 ha affected on three occasions. The savanna formation, comprising 84.74% of the landscape, was the most affected natural cover. These results highlight the frequent involvement of the refuge by wildfires, underscoring the need for effective prevention and management strategies to ensure the long-term conservation of these valuable natural environments. |
