| Sumario: | It is of utmost importance that people understand smoking, as it is a disease characterized by nicotine addiction, whose effects on the body are harmful and not only affect smokers, but also the people around them and the environment environment1. The objective of the article was to describe the harm done in relation to the use of tobacco and the comparison between the use of cigarettes and hookahs. A bibliographic review was carried out, using the databases Scielo And Google Acadêmico, Lilacs, Pubmed, using the descriptors “hookah”, “cigarette” and “tobacco”, for articles published between 2010 and 2020. Studies have shown that the use of the hookah becomes more aggressive to the health of users due to the addition of flavoring agents, however tobacco in any form is harmful to health, causing problems with breathing, cancer, nicotine dependence, besides representing a gateway for substances illicit. Contrary to popular beliefs, hookah smoking exposes smokers to various toxic and carcinogenic substances because it has more harmful substances in its composition than cigarettes. Measures to prevent the use of substances available in tobacco should be carried out on adolescents, especially within school education institutions, as a way of controlling smoking. |
