| Sumario: | This article presents the guidelines for an approach to inequality that is appropriate for Global South countries from a conceptual, methodological and empirical point of view. It seeks to criticize conventional approaches and then studies that contribute to understanding the multidimensional causes of inequality in these countries are presented, especially in South Africa. The main purpose is to contribute to the construction of an innovative research agenda, which is interdisciplinary, historically based and centered on power relations. In addition, such an approach should seek to combine explanation in the theoretical field (highlighting structural and institutional elements) with the comparative analysis of national trajectories (identifying similarities and divergences) and with the substantive discussion of public policies aimed at overcoming the diagnosed problems (examining their main immediate results). |
