Sumario:The thesis is a study about composer Cesario Mendes (1896-1981), born in Itapecerica-MG. As a composer, he wrote approximately 400 works, sacred and profane. Cesario Mendes was also a renowned musician, conductor and music teacher at his city. This thesis is a study about his life and his importance for music. Three of his works exemplify his versatile style: the dobrado Aluizio dos Santos and the sacred pieces Agnus Dei (from Missa in honorem a Sancti Sebastianni) and Antiphona de São Miguel - Cor Jesu Eucharisticum. The two reasons of the thesis are to show the importance of composer for the Brazilian music and divulge his music work.
