Descripción
Sumario:This article analyzes the distinct meanings ascribed by a group of master swimmers to the native notion of sacrifice and the ways moralities and specific practices are set through it. It will look further into the particular case of master swimming, where representations are crossed not only by economic and physical dimensions, but also by age. It pays particular attention to the ways in which swimmers, through work and physical effort, incorporate an ethic of sacrifice that accounts for a particular moral universe, through which symbolic boundaries and social distinctions are built that enable us to ask about the way sacrifice operates as a class sign in the sport practice of that particular group.
