| Sumario: | The number of elderly people in the world has increased and will continue to increase, as well as the number of Noncommunicable Chronic Diseases. Among these, dementias stand out, which are characterized as disabling syndromes of a chronic and degenerative nature. In Brazil, they affect about 2 million people, and approximately 40 to 60% of them are Alzheimer's disease (AD). The changes resulting from illness due to AD make the elderly person progressively lose their autonomy and independence, making them dependent on care. However, the elderly person does not always have the necessary family, social and economic support to cope, and institutionalization may be the only viable option at the moment. Within the scope of the Long-term Care Facilities (ILPI), the nursing team stands out for carrying out activities directly related to the care process. The present study aims to describe, based on the scientific literature, nursing care for institutionalized elderly with Alzheimer's. This is a narrative literature review, carried out from the search of scientific articles in the LILACS and PubMed databases. The search took place in March 2021. From a total of 2256 articles, 28 were selected and read in full. Through critical and interpretive analysis, two thematic categories emerged: Perspectives on caring for elderly people with Alzheimer's, and Strategies for nursing care for elderly people with Alzheimer's. The nursing team has great importance in the lives of institutionalized elderly people with Alzheimer's, knowing their needs and providing comprehensive and person-focused care. Nursing care for institutionalized elderly with Alzheimer's still needs to be explored. |
