Sumario:Aims: to identify international and national articles about of aged individuals with heart failure; to verify medical approach to control of symptoms and psychosocial, spiritual, and clinical conditions commonly presented by elderly patients with heart failure.Methods: a narrative review through the search for studies about palliative care of elderly patients with heart failure indexed in the electronic databases PubMed, Scielo, Lilacs, Scopus, utilizing the primary descriptors of Health Sciences (Descritores em Ciência e Saúde(DeCS)): insuficiência cardíaca, idoso, cuidados paliativos, and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH): heart failure, aged, elderly, palliative care.Summary of findings: Twelve review articles about palliative care of patients with heart failure were identified and included in this review, and only 02 review articles about palliative care of aged patients with heart failure.Conclusions: An approach through comprehensive geriatric evaluation, identification of frailty and comorbidity, allied to special skills in the management of heart failure symptoms are of cornerstone importance for a better result of palliative care of elderly patients with heart failure. Additionally, there is a scarcity of original articles about palliative care of elderly patients with heart failure.
