Descripción
Sumario:This article focuses on the song “A Voz do Morto” (1968), which means “the voice of the dead” in English. It was composed by Caetano Veloso upon a request by singer Aracy de Almeida in reference to samba singer Noel Rosa. This article analyzes intertextual poetic procedures, which together with the musical and intonation structure, contest the notion of samba as a form to be preserved and self-affirm Brazilian popular song as a tradition in movement and transformation. It focuses on the first recording of the track by Aracy de Almeida (1968), as well as versions by the composer (1968 and 2011).
