Resumo:The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors for injury in amateur college football athletes, comparing them according to game positions. This descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study included a convenience sample, formed by male soccer field athletes from a university team, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Athletes were assessed for range of motion (ROM) of ankle dorsiflexion (Lunge test), functional performance assessment (Single hop test, Timed hop test and Side hop test) and unipodal balance assessment (through Computerized Dynamic Posturography). The results showed that there was an association between the limitation of ankle dorsiflexion ROM and the position of the midfielders, in which they presented greater deficits than the other positions (p=0.021). There was also an association between a worse functional performance with the defense position, in which these athletes presented a lower performance when compared to the other categories (p=0.008). We evidenced an association between a worse balance in one-legged support with the attack position, in which the attackers had worse postural control than the others (p=0.010). Important risk factors for injury were found, according to the tactical position of the game, and this information is useful to promote preventive strategies, considering the specificities of the tactical positions of the athletes.
