Resumo:During the period known as Epiclasico (650-1000 d.C.) some societies settled in the Mesoamerican northern frontier experienced social phenomena related to social complexity: they became sedentary and developed elite groups, that demanded luxury items to show their greater status. In this paper it is shown the shell object collection recovered from El Ocote, an archaeological site located in the Mexican estate of Aguascalientes. The possible role of these items as prestige goods is discussed based on the origin of the materials, the types of objects found and its archaeological contexts.
