Different data sources were used: rainfall hourly data from Pelotas Agrometeorological surface station and rainfall daily data from 16 meteorological surface stations of RS, to verify the rainfall registered in Pelotas and RS during flood occurrence; infra-red (channel 4) satellite imagery from GOES 10, to analyze the evolution of meteorological system that generated the flood; radar reflectivity data from Canguçu meteorological radar to analyze the convective activity related to the flood case and data from NCEP-CFSR Reanalysis (National Centers for Environmental Prediction – Climate Forecast System Reanalysis), to analyze the large-scale environment associated with flood case. The results showed that atmospheric conditions observed in the region were extremely favorable to formation and development of the extratropical cyclone that formed from 01/28/09 and favored the flood case occurrence in Pelotas on 01/29/09Neste trabalho foi analisado um caso de enchente que ocorreu na região de Pelotas-RS em janeiro de 2009. Utilizaram-se dados horários de precipitação pluvial da estação agrometeorológica de superfície de Pelotas e dados diários de precipitação pluvial acumulada de 16 estações meteorológicas de superfície do RS, para verificar a precipitação registrada em Pelotas e no RS durante a ocorrência da enchente; imagens do satélite GOES 10 (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) do canal 4 (infravermelho termal) para analisar a evolução do sistema meteorológico que atuou na geração da enchente; dados de refletividade do radar meteorológico de Canguçu para analisar a atividade convectiva associada ao caso de enchente e dados de reanálise global geradas no National Centers for Environmental Prediction – Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (NCEP-CFSR), para analisar o ambiente de grande escala associado à ocorrência da enchente.
