This dissertation had as general objective to analyze the concept of pluralism in the Brazilian Social Work, taking as reference the Federal Council of Social Work (CFESS). In this profession, pluralism presents itself as an essential element of training and professional practice. However, despite its importance, it prevails as an ethical principle little understood and studied. In this context, we argue that situating how the category's representative bodies - and more specifically the CFESS - conceive it is a crucial step to understand how it materializes in the profession, and, consequentially, contribute to fill this gap. In this sense, the specific objectives that guided the research included understanding the historical social determinants of the development of pluralism in Brazilian Social Work; examine the theoretical and ideological bases of the concept of pluralism adopted by the Federal Council of Social Work; and to identify the contours of this conception. For the development of this study, we carried out, based on an ontological approach, a qualitative research of an explanatory nature. The theoretical instruments made it possible to situate pluralism in society - understanding it as an ambiguous phenomenon that emerged from modernity - as well as its establishment in the Brazilian Social Work during the period of professional renewal. In addition, we point out the general features that make up the new hegemony established since then, which was configured as the ground on which a new way of conceiving and concretizing pluralism in the profession was developed. It was precisely on the basis of this scenario that we sought, in the following chapters, to expose CFESS's concept of pluralism. For that, we used a documentary research, which analyzed, with the help of a script, fifteen sources of CFESS. The results obtained revealed that the entity's conception of pluralism is based on the defense of a non-neutrality and on the idea of “hegemony with pluralism”. We emphasize, in this context, the challenges and the necessary care in dealing with these issues, so that the profession does not fall into a political mistake and an anti-pluralism. In addition, the institution presented a negative definition of pluralism associated with a criticism of eclecticism, as well as, and mainly, a positive definition that understands respect as a “respectful struggle” and democracy under socialist scopes. We conclude by pointing to the complexity and importance of this theme, indicating the path of belligerent coexistence as one that understands the limits and potential of pluralism in Brazilian Social Work. |

Na profissão, o pluralismo se apresenta como um elemento essencial da formação e do exercício profissional. Entretanto, apesar dessa importância, ele permanece como um princípio ético pouco entendido e estudado. Nesse quadro, argumentamos que situar como os órgãos representativos da categoria – e mais especificamente o CFESS – o concebem é um passo crucial para entender como ele se materializa na profissão, e, assim, contribuir no suprimento dessa lacuna. Nessa direção, os objetivos específicos norteadores da pesquisa compreenderam apreender as determinações sócio históricas do desenvolvimento do pluralismo no Serviço Social brasileiro; examinar as bases teórico-ideológicas da concepção de pluralismo adotada pelo Conselho Federal de Serviço Social; e identificar os contornos dessa concepção. Para o desenvolvimento deste estudo, realizamos, tendo como base uma abordagem ontológica, uma pesquisa qualitativa de natureza explicativa. O instrumental teórico permitiu situar o pluralismo na sociedade – entendendo-o enquanto um fenômeno ambíguo emergido a partir da modernidade –, bem como a sua instauração no Serviço Social brasileiro no período de renovação profissional. Além disso, apontamos os traços gerais que conformam a nova hegemonia estabelecida a partir de então, a qual se configurou como o chão no qual se desenvolveu uma nova forma de conceber e concretizar o pluralismo na profissão. Foi justamente tendo como base esse cenário que buscamos, nos capítulos seguintes, expor a concepção de pluralismo do CFESS. Lançamos mão, para isso, de uma pesquisa documental, a qual analisou, com o auxílio de um roteiro, quinze fontes do CFESS. Os resultados obtidos revelaram que a concepção de pluralismo da entidade apoia-se na defesa de uma não-neutralidade e na ideia de “hegemonia com pluralismo”. Ressaltamos, nesse âmbito, os desafios e os cuidados necessários no trato dessas questões, a fim de que a profissão não recaia em um equívoco politicista e em um antipluralismo. Ademais, o órgão apresentou uma definição negativa de pluralismo associada a uma crítica ao ecletismo, assim como, e principalmente, uma definição positiva que entende o respeito enquanto “embate respeitoso” e a democracia sob escopos socialistas.
