Resumo:ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To analyze the prevalence of visceral larva migrans (VLM) and cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) in soils of city parks in Redenção, Pará State, Brazil. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The soils of five city parks, located from center to periphery of the city, were examined. A total of 60 g of soil were collected at five different points in each park, resulting in 25 samples. Spontaneous sedimentation and centrifugal flotation methods were used for material analysis. RESULTS: Of the total samples of the five parks, 80.0% were positive for the presence of parasitic forms, 72.1% were identified as CLM, and 27.9% as VLM. A predominance of filariform larvae of Ancylostoma hookworms (58.8%) was observed in relation to the rest of the larvae identified. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of these parasites in city parks emphasizes the importance of adopting prophylactic measures, since they can be a source of infection in environment, compromising human health.
