| Summary: | The consumption of pornography, understood as sexually explicit materials intended to cause sexual arousal, is related to sexual satisfaction. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between pornography consumption and sexual satisfaction in a sample of brazilian adults. A survey was carried out with 153 adult participants of both gender, mean age of 27,06 (SD = 7,40) years. Data were collected online, with self-administered instruments that assess characteristics of pornography consumption, sexual satisfaction, self-esteem and body satisfaction. The results showed that men consume pornography earlier (M = 13,20) than women (M = 14,79; t = -3,463; p = 0,001) and monthly consumption is more frequent in men (M = 6,41) than in women (M = 4,50; t = 5,633; p = <0,001). The frequency of pornography consumption and the time in minutes of access were not statistically correlated with sexual satisfaction, as well as with self-esteem and body satisfaction. It is argued that the relationship between pornography consumption and sexual satisfaction is mediated by other constructs. |
