| Sumario: | In the orchestrated opposition between the world of work and the world of ideas, the division between the school of knowledge and the school of doing is strengthened, with the first coming to the ruling elites and the second to the subaltern social groups. It is under this principle that this text presents, historically, the separate formation in Brazil of a block of vocational-technological education, from courses of initial and continuing training to the advanced courses of technology, parallel to the general propaedeutic training that leads university courses. In order to defend this thesis, the arguments that built and maintain the dual organization of the Brazilian education system throughout the 20th century are raised through a bibliographical and documentary review. It focuses on the educational policies related to vocational education and, in particular, technical secondary education in Brazil, a privileged locus for understanding the duality of the national educational system. As a result, analyzes and information collected are presented in conjunction with the social and historical context, highlighting the presence of political struggles. |
