Descripción
Sumario:  Considering the Covid-19 pandemic and its spread in the country, especially among the population living in the Brazilian peripheries and slums, black, poor and precarious from the perspective of work and access to fundamental rights, the article proposes a discussion of the challenges posed by the confrontation of this pandemic in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, Brazil. Taking these challenges into account, the article emphasizes the current socioeconomic and political context of the country and the municipality, highlighting the growth of unemployment and precariousness. Paradoxically, the dismantling of social rights and social security policies promoted by neoliberal counter-reforms have not only aggravated social inequality but also hindered the implementation of the necessary responses to face this pandemic.
