Sumario:The urban and social fragilities of the waterfront requalification project, which is part of the Porto Maravilha project, RJ, are identified. From a theoretical point of view, the concept of “urban ecotone” is used, in addition to documents prospected in various sources. From the empirical perspective, consolidated scenarios will be observed, as well as recent consultations with the local community that provide new perspectives of analysis. It seeks to revisit the region and confront the real intentions - or initial pretexts, - with the realities effectively implemented. Porto Maravilha (2009) aimed to create a new urban centrality from the Port Zone of Rio de Janeiro, proposing architectural, landscape and urban interventions, which put the traditional inhabitant in the background. From this premise, it is understood that an area of friction was created, an urban ecotone, in relation to the traditional communities, especially those located in the hills of Conceição, Pinto, Providência and Livramento, located in the focus area of the project.
