Resumo:This study aimed to associate the constructs of emotional intelligence with transformational leadership based on the theoretical contribution of Social Representations. 50 employees participated, aged between 18 and 55 years (M=35,47), from a higher education institution in the State of Paraíba. As instruments, a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Free Word Association Technique were used. The textual production was processed with the aid of the ALCESTE software and analyzed by Descending Hierarchical Classification, sociodemographic data using SPSS (version 21). From the results, three thematic classes emerged, anchored in the concept of transformational leadership, in the conception of emotional intelligence and in the leader's contributions to the team. Through the speeches of the interlocutors, they presented a profile of participatory leader, in the intervention of support to their subordinates, the focus is to be able, from the results, to expand the studied concepts for better personal and professional development of each one involved.
