Description
Summary:This study's aim is to discuss the role that both the industrial restructuration and competitivity may have upon the Brazilian regional an urban dynamics. A brief synthesis of the new conditions of international competitivity and the country's position in this new scenario is presented, next being discussed the limited character presented by a policy of industrial modernization. Are also analysed possible changes in the urban and regional processes in Brazil, resulting from the modernization of its productive processes. Efforts for maintaining, expanding or conquering competitive positions in the international market, without the support of a long term project, are seen as a possible socially disintegrating path, leading to interregional tensions and to the deepening of spatial intraurban segregation.
