Sumario:Introduction: During tooth eruption to occur degradation of tissue located towards eruptive. Objective: To investigate the structural changes in the extracellular matrix and the participation of enzymes, matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and acid phosphatase (ACP) in the degradation of the lamina propria during the establishment of route eruptive. Materials and Methods: jaw fragments containing the lamina propria (LP) of the path of eruptive 1 mole of mice with 9, 11, 13 and 16 days were fixed and embedded in paraffin. Sections were stained with picro-sirius red to quantify the birefringent collagen to the polarizing microscope; immunohistochemical reactions for the detection of MMP-1 and ACP were also performed. The numerical density of MMP-1 positive cells was computed in LP. The quantitative results were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey test (p≤0.05). Jaw fragments were embedded in Araldite for ultrastructural analysis; some were fixed and incubated with beta-glycerophosphate for ultrastructural detection of acid phosphatase. Results: The analysis of the polarizing microscope revealed a significant reduction in the birefringent collagen in LP mucosal penetration phase (rats 13 and 16 days) compared to intraosseous eruptive phase (rats of 9 and 11 days). Moreover, a significant increase in the number density of MMP-1 immunopositive cells was observed in mice 13 and 16 days. In these animals, the LP cells exhibited a marked immuno the ACP. Ultrastructural examination showed that the cells contained LP with various electron-opaque lysosomes (positive for acid phosphatase); these cells were presented surrounded by an extracellular matrix and flocculent with granular appearance in eruptive phase of mucosal penetration. Conclusion: MMP-1 participates in the collagen degradation process via the eruptive. The presence of acid phosphatase indicates that the cells in the lamina propria are internalizing and digesting the remaining extracellular matrix previously degraded.
