Effect of Irisin after physical exercise on physical and mental health: An integrative review

Introduction: People who are diagnosed with cognitive and neurodegenerative problems benefit from the benefits of physical exercise by increasing and improving neurogenesis, improving synaptic plasticity and reducing neuroinflammation. Objective: Investigate the effect of irisin after physical exerc...

Sumario:Introduction: People who are diagnosed with cognitive and neurodegenerative problems benefit from the benefits of physical exercise by increasing and improving neurogenesis, improving synaptic plasticity and reducing neuroinflammation. Objective: Investigate the effect of irisin after physical exercise on brain neuroplasticity. Materials and Methods: This is an Integrative Literature Review (RIL), of a qualitative, descriptive nature. We followed the question: “What is the effect of irisin on brain neuroplasticity after physical exercise?”. Search period was from 2015 to 2023 in PubMed and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. The descriptors (DeCS) were: Irisin; Physical exercise. And positioned with the Boolean operators: “Irisin” AND “Physical exercise”. Results: The integrative review included 16 studies in different countries, including Poland, China and the United States. Conclusion: In short, the results of this integrative literature review indicate that physical exercise is associated with an increase in irisin levels in the blood and that this protein may be affected in a series of positive effects related to health and is related to the type of exercise., its intensity, age, gender, weight and muscle mass of the individual.
