| Sumario: | Since 1991, the Conformity Assessment Programs for Fire Extinguishers, concerning the production process and the inspection and maintenance process of fire extinguishers, are managed by Inmetro. In order to improve the programs, several insertions - the adoption of legal, technical and conformity assessment regulation - have been done by Inmetro. Nowadays, there is a vast quantity of portable fire extinguishers present at several society segments in Brazil, which display the conformity mark. Such trademark indicates that the fire extinguisher is in compliance with the Conformity Assessment Regulations issued by Inmetro, the Brazilian body responsible before regulation bodies and the Brazilian society for verifying the conformity of fire extinguishers to the present regulations. Therefore, the objective of this study is to define, elucidate and compare the Conformity Assessment Program for Fire Extinguishers, concerning the manufacturing process, established in Brazil and in the United States of America. In addition to this, it attempts to assess critically Class D and K fires, by developing proposals and regulation requirements. |
