Resumo:This paper aims at putting forward the hypothesis according to which, though been traditionally labelled as a Cartesian philosopher, Leibniz seems in effect to be one of most aggressive critiques of the philosophical system built by Descartes. In order to reach this aim, I first discuss Leibniz’ critiques against Descartes’ method; next, I present the raisons why Leibniz rejected the fundamental notions of Descartes’ metaphysics; then, I examine the shortcomings Leibniz believed he had found in Cartesian physics. Finally, in opposition to what is told by the history of philosophy, one will be able to conclude that Leibniz saw himself and acted as an absolutely anti-Cartesian thinker.
