Descripción
Sumario:Access to health information by linguistic minorities is essential for disease prevention. The aim of this research was to analyze the websites about epidemic high prevalence diseases in Brazil regarding visual and linguistic accessibility for the deaf and the efficiency of the free online Brazilian Sign Language translators’ programs in enabling reliable access. The search for free online translators resulted in 6 translators who were evaluated according to the type of translation, presence of signs and reliability. The textual description was not reliable, due to the impossibility of adapting terms that do not have signs in the LSB. The importance of this study is to alert about the fact that prevention of disease and health protection of the deaf can be compromised if the information accessed in the internet cannot be understood.
