Description
Summary:The present study seeks to investigate the family conceptions from the point of view of psychologists who worked at Centros de Referência da Assistência Social (CRAS)/Reference Center for Social Assistance from a city in Rio Grande do Sul. To achieve this goal, individual interviews were performed with five psychologists and the data was analyzed according to content analysis. As result, the participants considered family those people who establish relationships from affective bond, not restricted to consanguinity. However, some interviews presented remnants of a more traditional and romanticized family concept. Upon the participant‟s conceptions about the attended families at CRAS, the data analysis indicated the importance of the practice being linked to the capacity of analyzing the action context in a more critical way and which starts from a broad reading of the Brazilian social reality, social inequality and its repercussions. Based on the reflexions presented, it is expected to contribute to the construction of a social assistance practice that do not reproduce the social violence and the stigmatization of the attended families.
