Sumario:Despite the great presence and importance of black populations in the formation of Brazilian culture and in the constitution of the material bases of the national economy, their legacies have only recently been the object of recognition and safeguarding by public heritage bodies, which for a long time were committed to reinforcing a Eurocentric vision of Brazil's official history promulgated by the State and its elites. In the article we address the processing of the processes of material listing and immaterial registration of terreiros in São Paulo at the Council for the Defense of Historical, Archaeological and Artistic Heritage (Condephaat), including the debates that took place within the scope of the working group “Traditional territories of African origin listed in São Paulo".
