Descripción
Sumario:This article analyzes the twelve ‘Cartas Lisbonenses’, published by the Portuguese writer Guiomar Torrezão, between the years 1879 and 1880, in the newspaper O Liberal do Pará. Relying on the philological method (Vasconcelos, 1911), the study aims to shed light on the existence of Guiomar Torrezão and her recipients in the aforementioned newspaper. This study focuses on a discussion about the literacy practices of nineteenth-century women, namely reading and writing as female activities, to define a path that interconnects both nineteenth-century female education and female literacy practices, as well as illuminates an epistolographic connection between Portugal and Brazil.
