| Sumario: | Considering the fanatical culture of football a space for manifesting a curriculum of masculinities in which women are made invisible or delegitimized, here we look into the experiences of a network of activist fans who seek to resist this scenario. With that, the aim of this article is to describe the way in which these women (re)make gender in the fan culture and dispute representations about authenticity in the ways of cheering. To do so, we interviewed 37 fans from different clubs and states in Brazil. Their reports were categorized, emphasizing two themes: the way in which these women build visibility for their presence in the fan culture and, secondly, the way they dispute the meanings of being an authentic fan. Finally, we demonstrate that they remake gender in the fan culture and offer the possibility of transforming a sexist and discriminatory culture. |
