Descripción
Sumario:This article aims to present new perspectives for the understanding of multidimensional poverty in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, between 2007 and 2014. The authors used the indices introduced by Bourguignon and Chakravarty (2003), which present an alternative way to measure the multidimensionality of poverty. The results of the six dimensions analyzed showed a reduction in the proportion of the multidimensional poor in the state’s population from 22.57% in 2007 to 19.90% in 2014. For the analysis of the isolated metropolitan, urban and rural areas, it was found that poverty was more severe in the countryside. As regards the analysis of the age groups, the elderly were the most deprived, mainly due to their larger deficit in terms of health.
