Sumario:Boron has essential functions in plants development such as cell wall synthesis and structuralization, lignification, carbohydrates metabolism and transport, besides this element participates in cell division and differentiation in meristematics tissues. Calla lily stands out among cut flowers used for ornamentation, because it is very versatility for floral arrangements. In addition to the flowers, leaves are also used in arrangements and plants can be used in garden compositions. However, nutritional exigency for this cultivation is still poorly known. Thus, this work was carried out with the purpose of evaluating the effects of different boron doses on growth and development, content and accumulation of boron in calla lily plants grown in nutrient solution. Micropropagated seedlings of calla lily were submitted to six treatments, which consisted in doses of 0.05; 0.25; 0.50; 0.75; 1.00 and 2.00 mg.L-1 of boron as boric acid form in Hoagland & Arnon nutrient solution diluted to 30% of its ionic force. The experimental design utilized was completely randomized, with ten replicates per treatment. Plants were evaluated as to growth characteristics of aerial part and root system, inflorescence production, boron content and accumulation in all organs of the plant. Plants developed on 0.05 to 2.00 mg.L-1 boron in nutrient solution showed no visual deficiency or toxicity symptoms in leaves and neither in inflorescences. Root system of plants cultivated in 0.05 mg.L-1 boron showed reduced growth. The best development of calla lily plants was observed in 1.20 mg.L-1 of boron in nutrient solution.
