Resumo:The treatment and the prevention of the obesity have been considered an enormous battle for the professionals of the health area. The recent discoveries about the benefits of the physical activity in the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses and an increase in the obesity cases has taken the population to an interest each bigger time for the practical of physical activity, diets and the use of supplements for a more effective treatment. The conjugated linoleic acid seems to present effect favorable how much to the maintenance of the body weight, especially in the reduction of the body fat and in the increase of the lean mass. The present study presents a review of the available data in literature, in animals and in human beings and that they relate the conjugated linoleic acid with the energy metabolism and the body composition in the physical activity. The studies carried through with trained individuals indicate that the conjugated linoleic acid seems do not modify the body composition, even so the studies are only in the resisted training and they are not conclusive yet. Therefore, more studies are necessary for an indication of this supplement as an agent for the improvement of the body composition, especially in the combination with the aerobic physical activity, beyond verifying the physiological mechanisms where it occurs the reduction of the body fat and the security of this supplementation.
