Resumo:Despite several distances and approximations between the living and the dead, the mysteries and myths created around death are so many that they ended up has been reflected in the place of the dead, a fact that gives, even in contemporary times, a mixed aura of taboos and fears to these spaces. Thinking about the cemetery beyond the concretiation of funeral rituals and giving it museological and tourist potential, despite little debate in Brazil, is not new. Based on a bibliographic dialogue between authors who work on the theme of the death, of the cemeteries and their approximations with museological spaces, it is expected to suggest ways to the understanding of the museum in its expanded field and to point out the approximations between the purpose of traditional museums and of secularized cemeteries, in addition to studying the possibilities of including the Santo Amaro Cemetery as a destination for specific tourist routes in the city of Recife, which can explore its historical and tomb artistic potential, pointing to a perspective of preservation of the memory of death and the dead in the city. Key-words: Visual Arts. Cemeterial tourism. Tomb art. Cemetery. Museum.
