Resumo:The article analyzes six doctoral theses and one master's theses that were developed from the perspective of historical-cultural theory. All doctoral theses were carried out in the context of research projects. Five of the doctoral theses were part of a project in the area of special education, in order to interpret disability and other disorders from the concept of special educational needs, in its articulation with the postulates of cultural historical theory. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the methodology of the research used and the pedagogical experiment, the case study, the life story are included as main methods, and two of the investigations are carried out from the assumptions of emancipatory approach. All investigations are deployed based on the dialectical materialist method and its starting point is the identification of the dialectical contradiction, which contributes to the search for a solution to the research problem.
