Sumario:Although some countries have presented positive results from strategies to reduce construction and demolition (CDW) waste generation and/or increase recycling, many have high generation rates and low recycling rates, like Brazil. This paper presents results of two case studies, involving CDW recycling plants: a) with external sale of recycled aggregate (RA); and b) without external sale of RA, with the objective to analyze financial results, the main influence factors and the role of different players in the viability of CDW recycling. Results show the essential role that must be played by the Public Power in terms of waste flow guarantee: the arrival of the waste in the recycling plants and the consumer market for the recycled product. However, while landfill disposal and natural aggregate are available at a relatively low cost,the flow guarantee is a challenge. Both cases showed a positive financial result, considering the first years of operation. In the first, results showed advantages in the 75t/h plant compared to the 50t/h plant. In the second, the amount of the recycled aggregate consumed is a key factor in order to optimize the costs related to the implementation and operation of the construction waste recycle plant.
