Resumo:The Tutorial Education Program was created in 1979 with the objective of raising the qualification of students of higher education courses in the various areas of knowledge. The PET Biology of the Federal University of Viçosa, in particular, was implemented in March 1985 and the objective of this article is to rescue its process of creation and tell a little of its history, highlighting the activities developed by the group at different moments of its trajectory and the contributions of the Program to the formation of its participants. The analysis showed that the methodology adopted in the Program provided opportunities for new knowledge to be acquired over the time of permanence of the scholarship holders in the Program, enriching their general training, improving their ability to work as a team and solve problems, increasing their creativity and awakening new interests. The Program, therefore, contributes to the global academic education of the students.
