| Sumario: | The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of ultraviolet radiation (UV-C) in the characterizationpostharvest of tomatoes 'Pitenza'. The fruits were harvested in the region of Cartagena – Spain, andimmediately after harvest, transported to the Postharvest and Refrigeration laboratory of the Scienceand Agricultural Technology Departament – Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena/Espanha, wherethey were kept at 12 ± 1º C for 12 hours. Therefore, the fruits were selected by size and visualaspects (injuries and defects), to standardize the lot, then subjected to ultraviolet radiation (UV-C) inthe following doses: control; 2,27; 4,54 and 7,19 kJ.m-2. They were appraised the pH, soluble solids(SS), titratable acidity (TA), maturity index. The scores indicate that between the irradiation UV-Cdoses, the treatment 4,54 kJ m-2showed the best results for all parameters compared to other doses, evidencing positive effect of the UV-C irradiation on quality of the tomato 'Pitenza’. |
