Descripción
Sumario:The current Brazilian reality presents deep political, economic and cultural challenges for the realization of a quality education and a fairer society, making it difficult to achieve the constitutional principles of university autonomy and inseparability between Teaching, Research and Extension. Despite this triple base, we know that Extension was integrated after the consolidation and historical legitimacy of Teaching and Research. The historical marks of this subalternity are expressed in the lack of interest and, even, of understanding of its concept by a significant part of university professors. The lack of institutional valuation, reflected in the scarce financing and in the low consideration for the functional progression/promotion of professors, deepens the lack of interest. Besides, it makes it difficult to integrate Extension into the curriculum of higher education courses and, consequently, restricts its formative role in articulation with Teaching and Research. In view of these and other issues, this article proposes analyses and reflections on (1) essential challenges to carry out Academic Extension in Brazil, (2) difficulties of carrying out Academic Extension in Brazil and (3) challenges and difficulties of the curricularization process of Extension, related to the goals established in the Guidelines for Extension in Brazilian Higher Education (CNE/CES No. 7, December 18, 2018).
