Apical obturation quality of Epiphany/Resilon root canal filling system
Aim: This study analyzed by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) the quality of the apical obturation of a methacrylate based (polycaprolactone) root-canal filling system (Epiphany/Resilon) compared to that of an epoxy-resin based endodontic sealer (Sealer 26/gutta-percha). Methods: Twenty roots of...

Methods: Twenty roots of human maxillary canines were debrided using ProTaper nickel-titanium rotary instruments and 2.5% NaOCl solution. The roots were divided into two groups (n=10): group I was sealed with Epiphany/Resilon and group II with Sealer 26/gutta-percha points. After set, the apical region of the roots was abraded until filling exposure and was then sectioned to obtain 2-mm–thick specimens. The specimens were analyzed by SEM and the images obtained were recorded and evaluated using an integration grid that permitted the quantification of the obturated area. Results: Statistical analysis (2-way ANOVA - Bonferroni test - p<0.05) revealed no significant difference (p>0.05) between the root canal filling systems. Conclusion: In conclusion, the two tested root canal filling systems showed similar behavior regarding to the quality of the apical obturation.Universidade Estadual de Campinas2015-12-04info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/bjos/article/view/864213810.20396/bjos.v8i3.8642138Brazilian Journal of Oral Sciences; v. 8 n. 3 (2009): Jul./Sep.; 132-136Brazilian Journal of Oral Sciences; Vol. 8 No. 3 (2009): Jul./Sep.; 132-1361677-3225reponame:Brazilian journal of oral sciences (Online)instname:Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP)instacron:UNICAMPenghttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/bjos/article/view/8642138/9629https://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/bjos/article/view/8642138/9630info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGarcia, Lucas da Fonseca RobertiNaves, Lucas ZagoConsani, SimonidesCorrer-Sobrinho, LourençoSouza, Fernanda de Carvalho Panzeri Pires de2016-02-25T09:18:23Zoai:ojs.periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br:article/8642138Revistahttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/bjos/PUBhttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/bjos/oaibrjorals@fop.unicamp.br||brjorals@fop.unicamp.br1677-32251677-3217opendoar:2016-02-25T09:18:23Brazilian journal of oral sciences (Online) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP)false |
