Descripción
Sumario:This paper verifies the scope of the actions of a Brazilian LGBTQIA+ social movement, the Matizes Group, within the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of the state of Piauí, between 2002 and 2023. The qualitative and documentary research collected and analyzed the content of state and municipal laws, decrees, agreements and resolutions, as well as two public civil actions, in which the Matizes Group collaborated for the approval of milestones in the LGBTQIA+ field. To complement the data, interviews were conducted with three activists from the LGBTQIA+ social movement. The results show that the repertoire actions chosen by the Matizes Group were made possible by the political opportunities presented by the arrival of the Workers’ Party (PT) to power. We conclude that the approval of public policies, laws and rights for the LGBTQIA+ population in Piauí occurred through the simultaneous use of the repertoire actions used by the LGBTQIA+ social movement in the Three Powers. The reflections presented in this paper contribute to studies on the influence of social movements on the state and specifically on LGBTQIA+ rights.
