| Resumo: | In this article, we seek to build a parallel between state initiatives for the education of the working class, through the creation of the School of Artificers Apprentices, in 1909, and the development of alternative pedagogical projects such as Escolas Modernas 1 and 2 , in the same historical context. This is an exploratory study based on a bibliographical survey, whose time frame was the creation of the EAA and the Libertarian Schools, at the beginning of the 20th century, the latter being violently closed by the Brazilian State in 1919. The State's effort is highlighted Republican to discipline the poor population and train labor for industry; in contrast, rationalist education, practiced in Modern Schools, aimed at comprehensive training and was opposed to the State and the Catholic Church. It is concluded that, despite the relevance of studies on external state policies for education, there is an urgent need to expand investigations that focus on the actions of workers in the construction of educational projects aimed at the interests of their own class. |
